Kale Crisps… Kale Salad… Kale Smoothies?
Ok… it’s everywhere on Pinterest. Kale is one of the trends in the food world – and it’s not too bad tbh. I’ll hold my hands up when I saw kale being an ingredient in smoothie, my first impression would be… ew!
But when I’ve tried it, it’s not too bad! Biggest problem I have though… is I’m constantly chewing on the leaves because they haven’t been blended properly. Not great when I have an appointment and I have kale stuck between my teeth. Classy bird.
In my latest food shop, I ordered a bag of kale – no biggie… oh wait…
So I was a bit surprised that I had a massive bag of kale instead of a smaller bag… but more stuff to use it right?
It did throw off my organised fridge however…
I made a smoothie ready to take to work tomorrow to keep my energy up in the morning – I don’t drink a brew at work (shock horror!) but instead I had fruit tea, hot water and honey, water or smoothies. Rarely touch coffee (unless I want to treat myself to a Starbucks) and trying to cut down on Lucozade… and failing.
What’s in my smoothie?
- Handful of kale
- 4 tablespoons of greek yoghurt with honey
- 1 banana
- Coconut water
How do I blend the kale into puree?
Thanks to this blog I stumbled upon – it’s a lot easier than I thought. I honestly thought I would have to cut the kale in tiny, tiny pieces and hope for the best. All you have to do, is put the leaves in first with a bit of water (I used coconut water to add some flavour) and keep blending it. Shake it about and add some more water until it’s a puree… and no more kale stuck in your teeth!
I had a quick taste of it before putting it in the fridge, ready for me to take it to work tomorrow. Result? Yum! It’s not bitter and it’s not too rich either. Perfect!
